Types of Events<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Office manages or provides consultation on four types of events: Presidential, Major Institutional, University, and Community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presidential Event<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Examples<\/span>: Presidential Inauguration, Presidential Address to the University<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Definition: <\/span>The President has initiated and outlined the event.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Role of the Events Office: <\/strong>Responsible for fully planning the event and providing on-site expertise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Funding<\/span>: Responsibility of the President’s Office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Major Institutional Event<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Examples<\/span>: Graduate and Undergraduate Commencement, The William B. Crawley Great Lives Lecture Series, Family Weekend<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Definition<\/span>: An event that targets major cross-sections of the University community. The President is in attendance or participates in the event.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Role of the Events Office:<\/strong> Responsible for much of the planning of the event \u2013 including invitations, catering, music, flowers \u2013 and for providing on-site expertise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Funding:<\/strong> Responsibility of the sponsoring unit or department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      University Event<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Examples<\/span>: Convocations, Ceremonies, Academic Conferences, Employee Appreciation Luncheon, and Employee Appreciation Picnic<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • Definition<\/span>: An event that targets a smaller audience than a major Institutional event. May be targeted towards a specific cross section of the University community. The president may or may not be in attendance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Role of the Events Office:<\/strong> May provide recommendations in an advisory capacity, but is not responsible for the total event. On-site expertise is not provided.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Funding: <\/strong>Responsibility of the sponsoring unit or department.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Community Event<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Examples<\/span>: Auctions, Conferences, Banquets, Art Shows, and Weddings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        • Definition<\/span>: Not a University event, but the office has been asked to oversee or make recommendations, often because the University President will be in attendance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Role of the Events Office: <\/strong>The office makes recommendations. On-site expertise is not provided.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Funding:<\/strong> Is a direct bill\/private pay to the responsible person\/group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
