Dahlgren Campus
The UMW Dahlgren Campus Center for Education and Research opened in January 2012 and is designed to support the education and continuing professional development of the region’s engineers, scientists and administrative professionals by providing educational programs, services and leased facilities to the NSASP commands, defense contractors and the professional community. The two-story, 42,000 square foot, technologically sophisticated building includes: 19 classrooms group study rooms with collaboration hardware and software, two computer-enabled classrooms and a 16 seat computer lab; an executive conference room; and, a 2,800 square foot divisible multi-purpose room that will accommodate up to 220 guests seated theater style and up to 150 guests seated banquet/meeting style. State-of-the-art instructional technology systems, video conferencing capabilities and wired and wireless internet access are available throughout the building that will host educational programs and professional events. It also is expected that the university’s presence will facilitate the establishment of a viable research presence and contribute to long-term regional economic growth and development. The ADA-compliant building, is designed to meet or exceed LEED Silver Certification requirements and includes several environmentally-friendly features including low-maintenance landscaping, designated car pool and low-emission vehicle parking spaces, a geo-thermal HVAC system and a vegetative roof.
