Welcome to the University of Mary Washington, a place where we believe “great minds get to work…”
I am proud to have the honor of serving as the ninth president of this great institution. UMW is a very special place indeed—a public university grounded on the strength of the liberal arts and sciences tradition, while preparing our 5,000-plus students for success in a dynamic, global society.
Here we feature small, challenging, and highly interactive classes, taught by innovative and accessible master teachers. Our students prepare for rewarding careers, as well as entry to the top advanced degree programs in the nation, though a rich array of research, internship, and leadership experiences. And we are proud to be a civically, socially, and intellectually engaged community—one where you will find a real sense of belonging and a commitment to meaningful service to others.
I invite you to visit our beautiful campus here in Fredericksburg, with its sweeping lawns, wooded glens, and magnificent Jeffersonian architecture. Or enjoy the vibrant excitement of our contemporary campuses in nearby Stafford and Dahlgren, Virginia. You will always find a warm welcome here at the University of Mary Washington!
Sincerely,
Richard V. Hurley
President
