Sabrina Johnson
Sabrina Carey Johnson, Associate Vice President of Human Resources and Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity officer, has held that position since she arrived at Mary Washington in 1997. She is charged with planning and directing the university’s principal human resource programs (recruitment, EEO/AA, benefits administration, compensation, employee relations, workforce planning and engagement ) to support the university’s mission and strategic objectives.
A native of Portsmouth, Va., Ms. Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in public administration from Virginia Commonwealth University (’82). She holds a juris doctorate from the College of William and Mary (’91) and is a licensed member of the Virginia State Bar (’91). After serving as a judicial law clerk, she joined the staff of attorneys and counselors at the Virginia Department of Employment Dispute Resolution in 1993. There, she played an active role in the statewide mediation program and began her professional concentration in human resources. She was appointed to the Virginia Council on Human Resources by former governors Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and was elected to serve as council chair for two years of her appointment.
